Mimi recommends...Freelance Whales

What do you get, when you combine Israeli frontman and his childhood memories with four other musician playing instruments from guitars, mandolins and banjos all the way to harmoniums, synthesizers and glockenspiels? You get one exeptional indie rock band hailing from Queens, New York called Freelance Whales.
They came together in late 2008 connecting with each other through Craiglist and friends-of-friends. They self-released their debut album, Weathervanes, in October 2009 after gaining attention and hype after performing on subway platforms all around New York. Their sound have been compared to likes of Postal Service and Sufjan Stevens. They began their journey to the top of the world in 2010 by starting to tour nationally and releasing Weathervanes in U.K. They have been called as ”the band to watch this year”.
